Ajsa and Adam are the goofiest and giggliest people I’ve ever met. They’re sweet and cute and affectionate and all the wonderful things. I’ve known Adam my whole life. He and I went to elementary school together and his family is prominent in the Louisville Muslim community. Ajsa and I met at the University of Louisville and became close through work we do with an organization called the Muslim Youth of North America (Adam does a lot with them as well). When Ajsa asked me to be one of her bridesmaids, I couldn’t have been happier. They only invited their very close family friends to the very private Nikkah at the Muslim Community Center (MCC) of Louisville. Ajsa and I happened to be talking about the event when I asked if she had anyone to take photos. Her response? “Ummm I was kinda hoping you would?” So of course, I grabbed my camera, and ran out the door!
Ajsa and Adam’s Nikkah was intimate, and beautiful. Adam is Libyan and Ajsa is Bosnian and the event was a beautiful coming together of their cultures and families. The ceremony was conducted in Arabic. That is traditional, but did lead to a funny moment when Ajsa, who doesn’t speak Arabic, didn’t notice that they were married! That’s the moment you see above! After the ceremony, Adam and Ajsa’s guests began congratulating them. That meant that it was a few minutes before the couple could actually great each other! The moment they did, however, lead to a very sweet hug.
After their hug, the newlyweds spent a little more time mingling, taking photos, and eating sweets. Ajsa’s infectious laugh filled the Masjid prayer hall and chatter in the world’s various languages echoed around us. Hugs and tears were plentiful, and there was love to spare. It was a wonderful evening, and their reception the next night was a dance filled, all-night party! Congratulations Adam and Ajsa!
